How to Care for Your Lawn During Hot Summer Months

The hot summer months can be tough on your lawn. High temperatures and lack of rainfall can quickly cause the lawn to dry out and lose its vitality. The following tips will help keep your lawn fresh and green even during the hottest time of the year.

The key to a healthy lawn during the summer is proper watering. Water the lawn in the early morning or evening when evaporation is minimal. Use enough water to reach the roots. As a general rule, the lawn should receive approximately 2.5 cm of water per week.

Mowing the lawn should be regular, but not too frequent. During the hot months, it is recommended to set the mower to a higher height (about 7-10 cm) so that the grass provides shade for its roots and helps retain moisture in the soil. Avoid mowing during the hottest part of the day to minimize stress on the lawn.

Choose a fertilizer that is specially formulated for the summer months. Slow-release nitrogen fertilizers help your lawn grow evenly and withstand heat stress. Apply the fertilizer according to the instructions on the package and don't forget to water the lawn well after fertilizing.

During the summer, the lawn is more susceptible to weeds and fungal diseases. Check your lawn regularly and remove weeds as they appear. Using appropriate fungicides can help prevent the spread of fungal diseases. Keep your lawn healthy and strong so it can better resist infestation.

Leave grass clippings on the lawn as mulch. Mulch helps retain moisture in the soil and provides nutrients to the lawn as it decomposes. This natural method of fertilization can reduce the need for chemical fertilizers.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your lawn stays healthy and beautiful during the hot summer months. Regular care and the right practices will help you keep your lawn in top condition all year round.
